Tanya Sen is a Singapore-based soprano and private equity investment professional.
Her artistic work is defined by a global, multi-genre approach. Classically trained in both the Western opera and Hindustani traditions, she performs a repertoire spanning 14 European and Asian languages across genres including opera, jazz, and contemporary fusion.
Performance & Impact
Tanya’s journey as a soloist has taken her to stages in the UK, USA, UAE, and India. In Singapore, she is a frequent collaborator with both established and emerging artists, appearing at landmark venues such as the Esplanade Concert Hall and Capitol Theatre. Beyond her work as a vocalist, she has directed and produced several large-scale musical projects which have raised significant funds for local charities and have been presided over by Guests of Honour including former Presidents Halimah Yacob and SR Nathan.
Recent projects
Her recent creative work reflects a deep interest in cross-cultural fusion. Her latest recording project, Desi Flavours, features her own re-arrangements of poetic North Indian songs woven with songs in Asian and European languages. On stage, she recently appeared as a featured soloist in When Nations Meet, performing French and Flemish songs with the Philharmonic Wind Orchestra. Her repertoire also extends to theater; she recently played a trio of leading ladies in the spy-thriller-comedy 39 Steps, a production in which 4 actors played 39 different roles in a wide range of accents.
Foundations & Background
Tanya’s diverse musicality was shaped by years of collaboration with ensembles such as Scherzo (opera), The Oxford Gargoyles (jazz a-cappella), and Polar Vortex (Latin and classic rock fusion). Her early career was marked by accolades including being named the overall winner of the UAE Best of the Best Vocal Competition, the Dubai Channel 4 Radiostar, and the UK Voice Festival for A-Capella.
Her vocal foundation was formalised at the University of Oxford, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Bel Canto Institute (Italy), supplemented by method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. Her multi-faceted background informs her creative work, which she often complements with her skills in guitar, piano, and drums, and her practice of Bharatanatyam and salsa dance.
